Victoria Tesla Megapack project resumes after fire

Tesla and Neoen have received the all clear to resume commissioning the Victorian Big Battery based near Geelong following a fire in July 2021, as reported by Teslarati.

The cause of the fire was found to be a cooling system leak that caused a short circuit in an electrical component of a Megapack. The incident caused significant damage to two Megapacks, however no injuries were reported.

Tesla and Neoen have worked to understand the cause of the incident and have implemented actions to ensure it won’t happen again.

The aim is to have the 300 MW/450 MWh Big Battery ready for operation by summer.
